Gesso like paste
Nov 29th, 2015 by Scrapping in NZ
After searching for the best homemade Gesso like paste I found one using products you probably already have lying around home. I found this recipe worked well with any acrylic paint. If using a dye/stain colour I found that the mixture took a huge amount of baking soda to thicken it up. I eventually gave up and compensated with a bit of plaster of paris and found it was instantly transformed into a lovely thick paste. You can see the texture of this paste in the Gallery section where I have used it for a Shabby Chic style pages.
Pro- Has a lovely to texture to it. I used this formula for my first attempt at “Shabby Chic” styled pages.
Con- None that I have found.
What you need
2 table spoons of acrylic paint (use what ever colour you want)
2 tablespoons of normal white glue
1/2 cup of baking soda
Mix the liquids together first and slowly add the baking soda, mixing as you go. Hey presto homemade gesso!
