Essential Tools

If you want to save yourself money, time and frustration then you really should have the things listed here as your most basic kit to create lovely scrapbooking pages.
These can be found at Spotlight, The Warehouse and The Warehouse Stationery stores.
Non stick craft mat- This gives you a nice cleanable surface to work on when using inks, paints, gesso and such.
Piercing tool- The tool in one is handy as it also has the brush end and the piercer.
Distressing tool- Useful for roughing up the edges of paper to give an aged, vintage or shabby chic look.
Craft Knife- The type with a razor end. This is useful for cutting into very hard to reach places.
Tweezers- The craft fine tip type to use for stickers, paper piecing’s or any other delicate job. I have a pair of the ones shown and I find it invaluable with it’s fine and self closing tips.
Cutting mat- Self healing
Trimmer- Don’t waste money on cheaper brands. The blades dull quickly and will need regular replacing which is an on-going cost and frustrating when the blades are blunt- I found out the expensive way. I highly recommend the Fiskars Precision Trimmer, I find it stable, sturdy, can extend out/fold in and the blade never needs replacing.
Scissors (a good pair) –both long and short . My long pair has a laser light to guide me for a straight cut which I find useful when cutting card stock or paper which is beyond the 30cm (12″) capacity of the precision trimmer.
Metal ruler- This will save you ruining plastic rulers when using your craft blade knife.
Glue (dries clear)- both the bottle type and a fine tipped pen for delicate jobs. It needs to dry clear so that any mistakes are not overly obvious. The glue pen is available from Just Scrapping with many different sized tips.
Double sided tape– both the regular kind and dimensional (foamed) ones or dots. Don’t buy them in your local $3 store as I found that they damage the paper if you try to reposition or remove something.
